Study Rooms

During fall and spring semesters, there are eighteen study rooms that students can reserve to study individually or in groups in the Ground Floor Study Commons (twelve rooms) and the first floor Research Commons (six rooms). Faculty can reserve the six rooms in the Research Commons to teach online or to use for office hours or advising, as outlined below. During winter session, summer session and intersession periods, either the Research Commons or the Study Commons are typically closed with study rooms available only in the area that is open. 

Room Occupancy:

Rooms can be reserved for individual or group occupancy.

Compliance with Campus Health and Safety Protocols

You are expected to comply with all campus health and protocols. Lack of compliance with any of these protocols may result in your being denied the ability to reserve a Study Room.

Reservations

Students can make reservations online to use one of the study rooms in the 1st floor Research Commons as an individual occupancy study space or group study space up to three hours/day up to three days in advance during the hours those spaces are available. To check availability, check this site: Browse Events / EMS (sfsu.edu). You will receive a confirmation email when your reservation is confirmed and it will be available to view online at https://rooms-ems.sfsu.edu/library.

Faculty can make reservations online following the same policy as students. Faculty members can also request single or multiple reservations to use one of the study rooms in the 1st floor Research Commons as an individual occupancy teaching space or for office hours or advising with students up to six months in advance during the hours it is available. Requests for reservations sent to librooms@sfsu.edu are processed in the order received Mon.-Fri. 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and are normally only accepted for advance reservations. Reservation requests received after 5:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri. or on weekends or holidays will be processed the following business day. Reservations require all requested information to confirm.

Vacating the Room at the End of Your Reservation Time Band 

Your reservation time period may be followed by a reservation for another user. Please leave the room promptly at the end of the time period for your reservation so the room is available for the next reservation.

Technical Support

There are no laptops or other computers in the study rooms. Please bring your own laptop, charger, etc. Large screen monitors and cables to connect laptops are available in the study rooms. There is no on-site technical support. If there are issues with the monitor, missing cable, or other issues, you can report them to Library Information Technology staff at the service desk in the Study Commons or Research Commons or by submitting a request to service@sfsu.edu or emailing librooms@sfsu.edu. Include “Library Study Room” and the room number in the subject line of the message.

Use of Whiteboard Walls

If you want to write on the whiteboard walls, please use the dry erase markers and eraser provided and erase the wall at the end of your reservation. 

Food and Beverages are Not Allowed in the Study Rooms
