Holds & Recalls

Sometimes you can be the next person to check out an item, by placing a hold, or recalling a book that is not currently available.

If an item you are looking for in the Library Catalog isn't available because it is checked out (indicated by a due date, e.g. DUE 09-09-15), listed as "Missing," or "Being Searched," you can put a hold on that item by clicking the Place Hold button at the top of the screen. Placing a Hold, means that you will be added to the waiting list and notified by email when that item becomes available for you to check out.

To check the status of hold requests, sign in to Your Library Account in OneSearch.

Rather than placing a hold on a book, you can also request a copy using Link+. Link+ can usually deliver the book to Book Pickup & Checkout on the 1st Floor of the Library in 3 to 4 days.

In some cases placing a hold on book may result in it being recalled before the due date indicated in the Library Catalog. This is a result of the faculty borrowing rules. Faculty may borrow circulating books for one semester. If, after the initial four week borrowing period, you request that book, it must be returned within seven working days after notification from the Library.
